"Voting is Our National Duty" - A Reflection on an Inspiring Event

Sri Bidyut Mukherjee, RSS Prachark

On a remarkable day, the Ram Sharad Kothari Sangh organized an impactful event under the profound theme, "Voting is our National Duty." Held with the objective of raising awareness about the significance of voting in India, the event saw the presence of around 100 dignitaries from various walks of life, and I was fortunate enough to be among them.

The event was graced by the main speaker, Sri Bidyut Mukherjee, Kshetra Smapark Pramukh of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a dedicated pracharak committed to societal upliftment. The Chairman of the program was the distinguished Director of the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Sri Devi Prasad Sharma Ji. Their presence and insights made the evening both informative and inspiring, leaving a lasting impression on every attendee.

The Importance of Voting: A Powerful Message

Sri Bidyut Mukherjee’s speech was the highlight of the event. He eloquently stressed the importance of voting as a vital responsibility of every citizen, one that contributes directly to nation-building. He emphasized that in a democracy, voting is not just a right, but a national duty. Every vote casts a voice for change, stability, and the future direction of the country. I was particularly moved by his explanation of how voting empowers individuals and holds the key to a stronger nation, enabling a more just and representative government.

As someone deeply engaged in the IT sector, I was inspired to see the connection between civic responsibilities and our professional lives. Technology might be shaping the future, but it is voting that determines who governs the systems that impact every facet of society.

India's Democratic Heritage and Voting Rights

India, the world's largest democracy, has a rich history of democratic participation, tracing back to its independence in 1947. The Constitution of India grants every adult citizen the right to vote, embodying the values of equality and justice. Since the first general elections in 1951, voting has been the cornerstone of the democratic process. Through elections, citizens have the power to influence policies and choose leaders who shape the nation’s trajectory.

Despite this, voter turnout in many regions remains low. This is why events like the one organized by the Ram Sharad Kothari Sangh are crucial—they help ignite a sense of responsibility among citizens, reminding them that their vote has the power to transform the nation. Voting is not just about selecting candidates; it's about participating in the governance of the country, ensuring accountability, and upholding the ideals of democracy.

The Role of the RSS in Promoting Civic Responsibility

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has always played a vital role in fostering a sense of national duty among citizens, including the importance of voting. Through its extensive grassroots network, the RSS has consistently worked to promote civic consciousness, encouraging people to participate actively in the democratic process. As an organization, it has always emphasized that nation-building starts with responsible citizens.

Sri Bidyut Mukherjee, in his role as Kshetra Smapark Pramukh, continues to carry forward this legacy by educating and motivating people to understand the impact of their vote. His speech was not just a reminder of the technicalities of voting but a call to action for all of us to recognize the power we hold as citizens.

My Takeaway: A Renewed Sense of Duty

As an IT expert, I am accustomed to solving technical problems and working toward innovation, but this event reminded me of the fundamental role that every citizen plays in shaping our country. Sri Bidyut Mukherjee’s words resonated deeply with me, reinforcing the belief that democracy is strengthened by active participation. Voting is not just an obligation, but a privilege, and it is the most direct way in which we, as citizens, can influence the future of our nation.

The event ended with a strong message that left a lasting impact on all attendees: Voting is our national duty, and by fulfilling this duty, we contribute to the progress and development of our beloved country.

Let us all remember that every vote counts. As citizens of this great democracy, we must honor our responsibility and make our voices heard. Together, we can build a stronger, more prosperous India.
